By Ashley Thomas, DAYTONA TIMES-Cathy D. Washington will officially announce her candidacy for City of Daytona Beach Commissioner, Zone 6 on March 24.
The lifelong Daytona Beach resident and Bethune-Cookman College alumnus has stated that the major issues she would like to tackle are jobs, affordable and energy efficient housing, revitalizing Midtown and other business districts, public safety and beautification.
“We need to revitalize our business district, especially in Midtown. I want to recruit and do business development to try to increase our tax base. I also will promote the community by securing good paying jobs. I will continue to work with Police Chief Michael Chitwood to make our streets safe. I think that the police are doing a good job. We can also continue to beautify our parks, streets and buildings.”
The kick-off is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will be held at 456 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., adjacent to the Busy Bee Too Restaurant. In addition to Washington’s official announcement there will be hot dogs and hamburgers free to the public, a voter registration drive and the Daytona Beach Black Nurses Association will be offering free health checks.
The public is invited to attend. If any other information is needed, call 386-295-8370.
