Post office food drive is May 12
The United States Postal Service is sponsoring a community food drive to take place at your mailbox May 12. The drive asks community members to place non-perishable food in a plastic bag at their mailbox to benefit people in need in Volusia and Flagler counties.
Chisholm Center to host ball
The African American Museum of Art is hosting a Black and White Ball at the Chisholm Community Center, 520 South Clara Ave., DeLand. The ball is May 12 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Community Partnership for Children is recruiting mentors for teenage children in foster care. Attorney to discuss scams
Attorney Michael Pyle will discuss “Scams, shams and flimflams” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 23 at the Daytona Beach Regional Library – City Island. Designed for seniors and their caregivers, the free program will concentrate on protecting oneself from the theft of money and identity and damaged credit. Related topics will include how to address phone calls, door-to-door contacts and other attacks. Radio club meets May 16
The Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association’s monthly meeting will be held May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 620 S. Online auction ends May 17
The George Washington Carver Foundation is accepting bids on items on its online auction with all proceeds benefitting the improvement and development of the George Washington Carver Community Center in Bunnell. Church to host May 11 concert

Car show to help hospital
The Ponce Inlet Corvette Club will be hosting the 2012 “Vettes at the Light Car’’ show with proceeds going to the Betty Jane France Center for Pediatrics at Halifax Health. The car show will be held on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kay & Ayers Davies Lighthouse Point Park, adjacent to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. There also will be music, food, door prizes and a silent auction. Halifax Humane Society also will receive a portion of the benefits.
