By Andreas Butler, Daytona Times – One final defensive stand helped Atlantic hold off Kissimmee Gateway high 27-22 at Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach tonight.
Gateway had the ball one last time in the redzone and had gotten to the six-yard line with a shot to win, but Atlantic’s Demonte Kemp and Xavier Scott sacked Gateway’s Anthony Gonzalez as time expired.
Alex Bell threw for two scores and Chris Jones had a good game on the defensive end to lead the Sharks.
The Panthers jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead behind a touchdown run from Isaih Wharton and a fumble return score from Hunter Webber.
Atlantic responded with 27 straight points. Jones’ one yard score in the third quarter gave them a 20-14 lead. A lead they would not relinquish.
