About 50 family members and friends celebrated the 80th birthday of longtime Daytona Beach resident Jerry Murphy last month at the Comfort Inn. Murphy, who is a veteran, was praised by high school friends from the former Campbell Street High School as well as his sisters and brothers.

Murphy’s children and grandchildren also honored Murphy who turned 80 on Sept. 9. He and his wife, Ann, have four children – Caprice, Nicole, Alton and Hank.

Murphy retired after working as a waiter at the former Morrison’s Cafeteria and in the custodial department at Daytona State College.
