The first “Light Up Midtown” event held Saturday night at Daisy Stocking Park featured a health-fair, HIV/AIDS testing, face painting, food, fun and a dance contest.
The evening ended with the lighting of a 25-foot tree decorated with metallic garland, lights and star.
“It’s beautiful,” exclaimed five-year-old Kortney Turner, after watching in delight as the countdown concluded with the first Christmas tree to ever be lit at the park.
Newly elected Mayor Derrick Henry commended organizers, supporters and non-profits of the evening’s success as he addressed the crowd of two hundred.
“On behalf of my wife and myself we want you to party with a purpose and continue to support our Midtown redevelopment.”
