Atlantic returns to Final Four

Port Orange- A stifling defense help Atlantic dominate Ocala Trinity Catholic 48-23
to win the 2-4A Regional Final on Saturday night.

The win propelled the Sharks girl’s basketball team to the Class 4A
State Final Four. It will be the second time in the past
three seasons that the Sharks made the Final Four.

The Sharks will play Coral Springs Charter School in the Class 4A
Semi-Finals on February 19 at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland,
Florida. The winner advances to the 4A title game on February 21.

Atlantic’s Dee Gillard and Shantanzia Howard led that defensive
effort. The two combined to hold Ocala Trinity star player Shambria
Washington scoreless in the game.

Destiny Woodard had the hot hand for the Sharks offense. Woodard had a
game high 17 points knocking down five three pointers. Woodard had 12
points off four threes in the first quarter.

McDonald’s All-American and University of Florida signee Ronni
Williams also had 15 points for Atlantic.

Amber Ferguson scored 12 points and Shannon Tanelli had nine for the
Celtics (26-3).

Also Father Lopez defeated Jacksonville University Christian 69-56 in
the Region 1-3A Final. The Green Wave will also advance to the Class
3A State Final Four. Lopez will play on February 20. The 3A title
game is also slated for February 21.
