Staff and wire reports – Mike Chitwood, the Daytona Beach Police Chief, had to be hospitalized after he was attacked on Main Street early Saturday evening during Bike Week 2013 on Main Street.
An unidentified man approached the chief saying he knew his rights and that he could arrest any officer at any time via citizen’s arrest.
According to Jimmie Flynt, spokesman for the Daytona Beach police department, the chief did not respond and attempted to walk away, at which time the man spit on Chitwood and Chitwood turned back to make an arrest. The two then got into a scuffle. The man bit the chief on his right hand and Chitwood hit his head on a parked motorcycle. According to witnesses, the chief held his own and arrested the man.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the man was arrested and Chitwood was taken to Halifax Medical Center to treat his bite. He has since been released.
