Florida KidCare, Volusia schools helping children to get insurance

Volusia County Schools is partnering with Florida KidCare to assist parents with enrolling and renewing in the Florida KidCare insurance program, which includes dental, vision and behavioral health.  Eligibility is based on income and family size and is offered at low or no cost.

Children with health insurance are more likely to get preventative care, receive treatment for chronic illness and take prescription medications. Children with health insurance are also less likely to miss school because they are sick. It boosts their performance in the classroom and means fewer lost workdays for their parents or guardians.

Kathyann Carmona, a registered nurse, provides assistance to parents and will attend school and community functions.
