Born July 4, 1914 in Culpepper, Virginia to Archie and Ardeemer West, Beatrice Ritchie celebrated her 100th birthday at Allen Chapel A.M.E Church on July 11.

Fondly called Bea, she went to high school during the Great Depression, marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights era, and worked for the federal government including the Army, Air Force and Navy, then retired after more than 20 years.

After a second retirement, she moved to Florida at the age of 83 in 2010 to live with her niece, Daytona Beach resident Pamela Reed.
