The grand reopening of the newly renovated and expanded Palm Coast Community Center is set for Friday, March 23. The event will be from 5-7 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting at 5:15 p.m. followed by an evening of tours and refreshments.
Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland and Parks & Recreation Director Alex Boyer will speak, and the Palm Coast City Council will participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Community Center is located at 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE, Palm Coast (corner of eastbound Palm Coast Parkway and Club House Drive).
Classes, special events
Tours of the center also will be available to the public from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 24.
The new center is the hub of parks and recreation for the City of Palm Coast, and offers something for all ages – weekly classes and social interaction, special events, and rental space for parties, weddings, business conferences and more.
The renovation and expansion project tripled the size of the facility – to 21,000 square feet – and added a grand entrance and lobby area featuring a contemporary coastal design. The state-of-the-art facility was built to LEED standards for environmental sustainability and resource efficiency.
Outside, kids can enjoy the modern playground shaded by historic oaks preserved during construction. The basketball court has been moved to the back to allow for more parking.
The new trailhead with restrooms connects to the Linear Park trail. Part of the expanded parking lot will be shaded with a solar canopy.
Sales tax revenues, generated by residents and visitors shopping in Palm Coast, funded most of the $8 million project. The city paid for the project in full without borrowing any of the needed funding. Ajax Building Corporation served as construction manager for the project.
