Festival to highlight women filmmakers

When a couple’s 14-year-old daughter says she’s going to her first dance with her classmate, they question their preconceived notions of her sexuality and their openness as parents in a film in the festival titled “Are We Good Parents?’’

The LUNAFEST Women’s Film Festival is Feb. 5 at the Athens Theatre in DeLand. Eight short films by women filmmakers will be featured. The festival is hosted by Girls on the Run of Volusia County.

All proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of Volusia County and Chicken & Egg Pictures, a nonprofit organization that supports women nonfiction filmmakers.

An opening reception is 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 at The Elusive Grape, 120 N. Woodland Blvd., with films starting at 7 p.m. at the theater, 124 N. Florida Ave.

General tickets are $25, which includes the reception. Tickets are $15 for students. They are available at online at gotrvolusia.org.
