Allen Chapel to observe 110th year

Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, 580 George Engram Blvd., will celebrate its 110th anniversary at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.

The theme for this celebration is “We’ve Come This Far by Faith – Doing God’s Work God’s Way.’’

The guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Zanders II, pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Jacksonville. He has pastored the church since November 2000. Zanders received his academic preparation from Morehouse College and the Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center, both in Atlanta.

Zanders is a candidate for bishop in the A.M.E. church this year. The bishops are elected at the General Conference, which meets every four years.

He is married to Winifred Houston and they are parents of two children.

“We are excited about the Celebration Service of our church’s founding. We invite the
community to worship with us,” said Nella Roberts and Tyrone Presley, co-chairs for the service.

For more information, call the church Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at 386-255-1195.
