Six people were injured Saturday night in a shooting near Daytona Beach’s boardwalk. Two people were shot around 7:30 p.m. on South Ocean Avenue near Breakers Oceanfront Park. Four people also were hit by shrapnel. None of the injuries are life-threatening, Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri said at a press conference on Sunday.
For the second weekend in a row, Volusia County authorities found themselves dealing with a massive crowd of young adults seeking a good time. On Saturday night, hundreds gathered on Daytona’s beachside for an event titled “Orlando Invades Daytona,’’ officers said.
A video released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office showed a throng of people around a car stopped right on State Road Highway A1A. Someone in the car was throwing cash out at the crowd.
Authorities say the crowd gathered Saturday evening included people from as far as Miami. On the previous Saturday, a huge crowd gathered in DeLand for a block party, also ignoring social distancing guidelines.
