There were plenty of creative events around the Daytona Beach area last weekend to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Community Healing Project (CHP) led a parade of more than 40 cars down Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard on Monday, the official MLK holiday.

The Midtown Community Development Corporation held a SUDS event at the Neighborhood Networks Career Center at 450 Whitney St. in Palmetto Park where free laundry items were given to residents.

MLK banners were revealed on International Speedway Boulevard from Nova Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, sponsored by the City of Daytona Beach.

The Daytona Beach/Volusia County NAACP, Black Clergy Alliance and MLK Celebration Committee for Florida held a virtual MLK Day Service online at YouTube.com.

Another parade was held in Port Orange on Monday and an outdoor MLK service was held at Master’s Domain Church of God in Christ at 511 Freemont Ave.

More information on MLK events will appear in this week’s issue of the Daytona Times.
